When Oscar and I found out we were going to be parents for the first time in 2013, we felt deep conviction in our hearts that we would always find a way for one (if not both!) of us to be home with our children full time. It felt essential that we had the opportunity to raise them under our care and guidance, and the desire to be with them and not miss anything was solidified in our hearts from day one. 

But the reality of being a young family on one income in southern california was grim. The current economic paradigm does not support the nuclear family to thrive. Still, we believed another way was possible and persisted on! We started an Etsy shop, began creating holistic health and wellness content, blogging about free birth and parenting, collaborating with other creatives and companies, and working to grow our reach and business endeavours. It was beautiful, and we did stay home as a family for the first year of our daughter’s life. But it was also hard. Being solo entrepreneurs was exhausting, and all of our methods for generating income while creating a positive impact on the world never seemed to reach the scale we needed.
